Why is Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) important?

CRAFT PRIDE

Industrial workers have been taking a lot of ‘heat’ lately, most of it unjustified. Problems with the economy are blamed in part on a lack of worker’s productivity. Some people also say the workers of today lack the sense of craft pride found in the workers of past generations. The facts tell a different story. Craft pride comes from a worker’s competence and confidence in doing a job right. But changes in the world economy, plus rapid advances in technology have created an environment that often discourages the development of both competence and confidence. Many companies seek to increase production and cut costs by installing automatic production equipment. Some of these companies have overlooked the corresponding need to train workers to operate and maintain the new equipment. The result has been a decline in competence, a loss of confidence, and a reduction in productivity. A country cannot be developed without skilled and competent technicians and engineers. Companies and Industries are set up by well-trained engineers and skilled technicians. You and your company are both taking a positive step as you begin this training program. By taking full advantage of all the program has to offer, you will be helping to boost productivity, create a healthy economy, and rebuild the sense of craft pride.
