Why is Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) important?

• TVET is an important part of the educational system in Cameroon with the aim of developing skilled workers for the country. Plays a vital role in supporting economic growth and development at both the individual and community level
• TVET encompasses education, training, and skills development relating to a wide range of occupational fields, production, services, and livelihoods. It is not limited to children and youth but includes professional development,up-skilling, andre-skilling ofadults.
• TVET serves multiple purposes. A key purpose is preparation of youth for work and higher education. This takes the form of learning and developing work-related skills and mastery of underlying knowledge and scientific principles. Facilitates life long learning and career development.
• TVET also helps to reduce poverty by providing people with the necessary skills to secure employment and generate income. It also contribute to economic growth by providing a skilled workforce that can support industry and innovation.
• TVET helps to fill the skills gap in the job market. Leads to a wider ange of career opportunities. Enhances young people's transition to a lot of opportunities after school.
• TVET utilizes scientific knowledge in the acquisition of practical and applied skill in the solution of technical problems. Prepares learners for employment, providing them with knowledge, skills and attitudes desirable in the world of work.

CRAFT PRIDE

Industrial workers have been taking a lot of ‘heat’ lately, most of it unjustified. Problems with the economy are blamed in part on a lack of worker’s productivity. Some people also say the workers of today lack the sense of craft pride found in the workers of past generations. The facts tell a different story. Craft pride comes from a worker’s competence and confidence in doing a job right. But changes in the world economy, plus rapid advances in technology have created an environment that often discourages the development of both competence and confidence. Many companies seek to increase production and cut costs by installing automatic production equipment.
